The project “Stillwater” explores his connection to the hardcore rock, and metal community through wet plate collodion portraiture. “ The wet plate process itself is an extremely slow and technical photographic medium. The workflow became a very appropriate way to photograph this community I share such a heartfelt connection too. It forced me to be very purposeful in what I wanted to capture in each individual.
The perception of the hard rock community to the general public can be somewhat biased. A number of people might dismiss the genre all together because of its aggressive nature. However, for me the concerts became a place of universal acceptance, and appreciation for the passion put into the raw live performances. In a way Stillwater is a self reflection of what this group of people has done for me. It is a way I can give back to the this family who have helped shaped aspects of my life, and identity through the special love for this music.”
